Union’s Response to COVID-19 and Library Closure

As many of you already know, the library administration has decided to make the decision to close down the library for an indefinite period during the outbreak of the virus. Per article 26 of the current contract, all bargaining unit staff will be paid from the calamity budget. This benefit was negotiated by the union and we are pleased that the library has been willing to close for our health and the health of our patrons.    Managers will handle the submission of timesheets and pay will be directly deposited as normal. No one will lose any pay or hourly earnings outside of their normal income. Calamity pay is based on hours normally scheduled to work. For example, a 4/5 employee who works a 32 hour per week schedule will be paid for 32 hours per week. Unfortunately, overtime, including scheduled Sunday hours, are not included.    In addition, bargaining unit staff are not to handle book drops during this time. Please do keep informed of updates from administration by checking your work email from home or by contacting your immediate supervisor. DMLSA wishes all of you to stay healthy.
