Chris Zurbuchen, DMLSA Treasurer, read the following statement to the DML Board of Trustees at their April 9th meeting. We still need volunteers to read future statements. If you would like to help out, contact Rich Robinson at Ext. 8560.
Good afternoon. My name is Chris Zurbuchen. I’m Treasurer for the Dayton Metro Library Staff Association and I am speaking to you on behalf of the Staff Association.
The purpose for the Staff Association to address your monthly board meetings is to emphasize issues that the Staff Association considers important to the mission of the Dayton Metro Library.
We believe that the employees of the library are this library’s greatest asset. These same employees are essential to achieve the operational goals stated in the 2008 Strategic Plan. We look forward to working with management to achieve an equitable labor contract, one that gives the employees a living wage.
The Staff Association is an important team member in the daily operation of the Library. We want contract language that will ensure fair treatment for all employees. We want to circumvent capricious reprimands or penalties. Today, we were pleased management took a positive step to reduce a contentious situation by choosing to lessen a discipline action. We intend to work with management to achieve a labor contract that reflects fair labor practices. We look forward to negotiations starting on April 22.
I appreciate the opportunity to address this board. Thank you.
