Contract Extension Vote Thursday PDF Print E-mail

The library has offered a contract extension that will, to some extent, serve both parties.  The extension involves a modest pay increase (of 2.3%) that will be paid retroactively to July 1st.  Aside from that, terms and conditions of the old SEIU 1199 Collective Bargaining Unit would be extended through June 30th.  This does include steps and longevity.  A normal negotiating cycle will begin in March or April to open all contract articles for negotiations.

The proposal will go to the Library Board for approval on Wednesday, and the bargaining unit will vote on Thursday.  Locations and times will be announced.  We're going to try to set up a northern session, a central session, and a southern session.  The negotiating team will be present to describe the Library's offer and its pros and cons.  After we present the pros and cons, we will answer questions you may have to the best of our abilities, and ballots will be collected.

Each bargaining unit member will receive one paid hour to attend a session and cast their vote.  Exact times and locations will be firmed up tomorrow and disseminated aggressively.

The timing of this vote is tight, we recognize, but by doing it on this schedule, bargaining unit members can receive their retroactive pay (July to present) in the paycheck just after Christmas.  Delaying any further would have made this timeline impossible to follow.

Please talk to other bargaining unit members to ensure this word gets widest dissemination!
