The LMC Met today and made a final set of decisions that frame the health insurance issues for the next year. Here's a very abbreviated version of what has been decided. In short, major medical will remain unchanged for most participants, as the Anthem/Lumenos HRA plan will be renewed at a slightly lower premium than the current (ongoing) plan year. Both dental and vision insurance will move away from Medical Mutual. Dental will move over to MetLife as our provider with a small decrease in premiums. Vision will be provided by Humana. The premiums will increase slightly, but the plan will be significantly more robust. Eye exams and lenses will require a copay, and allowances will be provided for frames and/or contact lenses.
The combined cost of premiums for all three plans will decrease, while under the terms of the contract, the library's contribution will increase by 10 %. This means that your out-of-pocket premium payments will decrease. Individuals should find they'll save more than $45 each month, and families will notice a decrease of about $110 per month in their premium costs.
A final note on the upcoming plan year: We decided to shorten the next plan year so that it will only run for ten months. This will bring the HRA contribution in cycle with the FSA (cafeteria plan) and our plan year. Most people have at some point found the current system a bit confusing with the HRA year running January to December, and the FSA year running March to February, with the plan year. By shortening the plan year, everything will happen on the same day: January 1st.
Open enrollment will begin later this month, and three informational meetings will be held. Open enrollment dates will be January 21st until February 12th. Meetings will be held January 21st, January 27th, and January 29th to cover details of the changes.
