Officer and Steward Bios for Election on Sunday, October 18th
President – Only one candidate
Rich Robinson – IT Services
Secretary – Only one candidate
Tim Osterday – Training
My name is Tim Osterday. I started working at the library in 1986 as a library aide in Main Circulation. In 1990 I started working full time as an LTA I in the same department. In 1993 I transferred to Belmont library where I worked as an LTA I for 5 years, and then transferred to the Training office in 1998. After a 2 year tour of duty, I transferred to the IT office in 2000. In 2005 I transferred again, this time back to the training office. Helpful experiences for this position include being appointed as the Recording Secretary of the Belmont Business Association, and serving as a steward for 3 years. I am also very fortunate to be the proud father of 4 mostly wonderful children ages 10, 12, 16 & 18. In my spare time I enjoy carting children here and there and rehabbing houses. If elected, I will perform my duties with the utmost diligence. Thank you for voting for me!!
Membership/Communications – Only one candidate
Jen Kadel – Training
I have been employed at the Dayton Metro Library since 1999. I have been the Training Specialist for the system for most of that time. I am currently serving as the Membership/Communications Chair for DMLSA, which has involved publishing monthly newsletters, updating the web site periodically, and ensuring that each new employee receives our membership information.
On a personal note, I have a wonderful husband, Brian, and three great munchkins (Abigail, Jacqueline, and Brady). We enjoy living in the country on our 27 acres in Miami County. If elected, I will do my best to continue providing communications to you, our membership.
Stewards – Vote for 4
Mary Jewell – Burkhardt
I started at the Dayton Metro Library in 2000 as a Library Aide at the East Branch. I was also an LTA at East before coming to Burkhardt as a Technical Reference Assistant. In my past jobs I have been a wire operator at an investment bank, an orchestral strings specialist in a music store, and a security guard. I have an Associate of Art degree from Sinclair Community College and when I’m not at the library I create huge concrete sculptures.
Lori Rotterman – Magazine & Special Collections
My name is Lori Rotterman, and I have worked in the Magazine & Special Collections division since January 2007. Prior to that I was Supply Clerk for over two years, and I started in the system as an aide in the Magazine division.
I have been a staunch supporter of DMLSA since before we existed, being one of the signers of the original petition to separate from SEIU, and being a member of the committee which wrote our Constitution and By-Laws. I have been a Steward for the last two years, and served on the negotiating team during the latest round of negotiations regarding our pay freeze and furloughs. [Boy, was that an eye-opener!] I have read the Union statement to the Library Board of Trustees at several different Board Meetings. I also serve as agency rep for some of the smaller departments here at Main that do not have a rep of their own. I have been working on the Library Levy campaign, attending a work-party and manning a table at an event, as well as talking to everyone I know (and sometimes even total strangers) and I plan to do more work in the upcoming weeks.
Outside the library, I am married with two sons. My husband is a musician and owns his own guitar shop, specializing in repairs and customizations. I try to attend as many of his gigs as I can. My older son is at Sinclair Community College, majoring in Computer Science, and my younger son is a senior in high school and is very active in the music program there (he’s a drummer). I am a member of the Montgomery County chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society where I will be serving as president for 2010. I am also involved in activities focusing on downtown Dayton, which includes membership in the Friends of the Arcade, as well as attending various programs regarding the future of downtown and re-vitalization efforts. When I don’t have anything better to do (ha-ha) I read voraciously, primarily mysteries written by and/or about women.
I would love the opportunity to continue to serve you as a Steward, and you have my pledge that I will fight for each of you whenever required. Thanks for your consideration.
Cindy Simerlink – Huber Heights
Kay Trochelman – Finance
I have been employed by the library for about nineteen years. I have worked in the Finance Office for nearly all of this time. During the years I have noticed changes to the way in which employee/employer issues are handled. In my opinion our employees are not being treated in the equitable and respectful manner they deserve. For this reason I would be honored to serve as a steward and try to help our employees who may need the assistance of representation. I have on many occasions been called upon to represent our employees in an unofficial capacity due to the nature of where I work and my knowledge of our past payroll and contract practices. When called into meetings as situations arise, often times I do not agree with Cindi & Tim, and I have no trouble respectfully stating so!
I enjoy my job and I love my co-workers of the Finance Office team! My favorite part of my job is getting to interact with Library staff members. On a personal note…I enjoy walking, reading, playing racquetball, cooking, and camping, (in a big ass camper, no roughing it!) I like taking trips with friends. My BFF is Pat Clingman. I’ve been married for 25 years. I don’t travel without Lysol!! My favorite color is yellow and my favorite beverage is wine. One of my very most favorite pastimes is spoiling the grand girls
